Project Overview
KLI (Keylime Interactive) is a user experience (UX) research and customer experience (CX) service design agency with 15 years of serving over 150 clients in all industry segments across Fortune 1000s, including Amazon, Roku, Bose, and Google. Our shared purpose is to advise companies on their customer experience (CX) so that we make a difference through better-designed products and services.
The goal of the project was to increase financial literacy and promote healthy financial behaviors for college students by conducting research and creating solutions to promote beneficial financial habits.
How can we create a solution to help college students build healthy financial habits, specifically within budgeting?
Process
Research & Insights
Throughout the project, I helped my team conduct a literature review and user interviews with college students to figure out where the biggest financial literacy gaps were—especially around taxes, budgeting, and investing. It was eye-opening to hear how much people struggled with complex topics and how much they wanted more accessible resources. Synthesizing that data really helped us focus our design approach and made the project feel a lot more personal and impactful.
Wire Framing
Using everything we learned from our research, we created mid-fidelity wireframes that prioritized clear navigation and usability. Testing these prototypes with college students gave us super helpful feedback, and it pushed us to keep refining our designs to make sure the final solution actually matched what students needed.
Documentation
I also worked on compiling a full report that pulled together all of our research findings, interview insights, and usability testing results. It was important to me that we could clearly show how each design decision was backed by real user feedback. We also annotated our wireframes to show exactly how our solution addressed the pain points students shared with us.
Final Design
The final design centered on providing college students with clear, practical tools to build financial literacy and confidence. The solution emphasized accessibility, ease of use, and relevance to the everyday financial decisions students face.
Key elements of the design included:
Interactive Learning Modules – breaking down complex financial concepts such as budgeting, credit management, and student loans into digestible lessons.
Practical Tools & Resources – calculators, templates, and quick-reference guides designed to support real-life decision-making.
User-Friendly Navigation – a clear structure that allows students to easily find resources, revisit modules, and track their learning progress.
Validated Wireframes – mid-fidelity wireframes tested with students to refine usability, ensuring the experience felt approachable and intuitive.
Comprehensive Documentation – detailed design guidelines and research insights provided to guide future development and maintain design consistency.
By combining research-backed design with interactive resources, the final product delivers a scalable and student-centered platform for improving financial literacy.

Reflection
This project really showed me how valuable targeted user research is, especially when it comes to designing something that actually works for real people. Focusing on college students in the Gen Z demographic made the whole experience feel more relevant and meaningful, and it challenged me to think more deeply about how design can solve everyday problems. Working with my team throughout the process helped me grow in both research and design, and it felt rewarding to deliver something thoughtful and usable to Key Lime Interactive.
